Top 10 things to do: San Pedro
Little is known about San Pedro Sula, because it is considered a "pass through city", for short term visitors or a " dangerous" place to be at. Like every big city, there are areas that could be shady specially at certain hours of the day, you wouldn't walk at night in downtown Brooklyn. It's a mixture of using common sense but also being well informed. At La Hamaca Hostel we have hosted and showed the city to thousands of backpackers over the past 6 years with no eventuality. Visit San Pedro, the Apostle Cathedral
An Iconic, historical place, a must visit. The Cathedral dates back to 1949 but it’s baroque architecture is very well preserved a photographer’s dream. You could visit and ask for a guided tour at the Cathedral, the Tour includes visit to the crypt and the Bell Tower. It is free but tips for the tour guide are welcome.

We live and breathe for “Fútbol” There are 2 main stadiums in the city: Estadio Francisco Morazán (shown in picture) was newly renovated, including a number of illuminated monuments dedicated to our Fútbol National heroes “Plaza Mundialista”. Main international matches are usually played at the Olympic Stadium. But you don’t have to wait for a international match, the national league is very has matches all year round, with tons of fans cheering the ambient is very entertaining.
Hike to the Coca Cola Sign
Our city is surrounded by the mountains of the Sula Valley, which ecosystem is mainly composed of tropical dry forest making a perfect scenery & climate for outdoor activities. One of the most iconic infrastructure of the city, ironically, is a Coca-Cola sign, It’s kinda of our version of the Hollywood Billboard and stands up on one of the highest point. The uphill walk is always full of fitness enthusiasts and leads to an awesome view of the city.
Bar Hopping at Zona Río
Zona Río is a new touristic and entertainment nightlife area in San Pedro Sula! This whole neighbourhood is full of boutique restaurants, themed bars, clubs and mostly full of personality. The area is safe and guarded and you can walk from bar to bar to do an authentic pub crawl. Zona Río is located only 1km from the hostel, ASK front desk for our bar hopping tour.
Go gambling at Casino Luxxor
There are several options around town, and most big hotel’s have their own casinos too, but Casino Luxxor is our fav! They have luxury grounds and an amazing restaurant, it opens everyday as from 8:00 am and they offer FREE transportation form the hostel and back. ASK front desk to book!
Hike, views and Brews at Angeli Gardens & Brewery
Hike within 86 acres of nature created by the forces of the environment, surrounded by gardens and exuberant nature, with one of the best views of the city. Finish your hike at Angeli Gardens restaurant or with a cold craft brew from Cervecería casa del bosque. Schedules Tue-Sat 8am-10 pm and Sun 8am- 8pm. Shop for handcrafted souvenirs at Mercado Guamilito
Located at the heart of Barrio Guamilito, this market offers lots of options to buy different types of handcrafted souvenirs. From Hammocks, ornaments, traditional clothing and even cigars! The market also sells Honduran food, drinks and fresh made tortillas in case you get hungry after shopping!
Go Coffee Hopping!
Honduras coffee export has gone through the roof, the country is now on the top 20’s for quality in the world, hence the Coffee shop culture is thriving in the city. More and more coffee shops open, each one with its unique touch and signature blends. Our favourites : Blendorteas, (photo) Cafetéo, Cafe Welchez, Crust & Crumb.
Eat authentic Honduran Barbecue
You can’t leave the city without eating a parillada, which is a Barbecue mixed grilled plate. Usually consists on beef, chicken, pork and chorizo, as sides you get fried green bananas, “Tajaditas” refried beans, pickled onions with jalapeños and salsa.The experience does not come solely from the food these “Restaurantes Típicos” are very Honduran, they have traditional stoves, music and ambience. our favs: Brasa Viva and Las Carnitas
